BASES OF EULAPS

EULAPS is an institution created to give answers to an existing necessity in the field of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy as well as in the field of medicine, nursing and corporal therapies. This necessity is about identifying, understanding and being able to influence on the intra-psychic forces that take part in the evolution and prognosis of somatic diseases and contribute to their development.

In the past, psychosomatics took an important place in psychoanalysis studies and in residents’ training. Many investigations shed light on diseases such as asthma, myocardial infarction due to stress, thyroid disorders, skin problems and gastrointestinal and rheumatic diseases. These studies were often psychoanalytically oriented, as Freud´s works opened the door to think  about body-mind relationship in a novel and original way. 

Currently an update is needed. Nowadays, the role of psychoanalysis in the psychosomatic field was partially taken over by CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) which doesn´t consider unconscious factors. Clinicians and specialized doctors resort to psychotropic drugs as a primary way of treatment without even listening to their patients before.  EULAPS represents a new school of psychoanalysis applied to psychosomatics.

BEGINNINGS OF EULAPS 

Motivated by the need of an international theoretical and clinical training, members of the “Study group of psychoanalytic psychotherapy of psychosomatic patients” of Moscow, Russia played a fundamental role in the creation of Eulaps.

Led by Lic. Irina Korosteleva, the study group of Moscow is a group of psychoanalysts interested in psychosomatic practice and theory who began to study and be supervised on line by Dr. Matias Hirsch from Germany and Professor Dr. Jorge Ulnik from Argentina. As a result, new and interesting scientific activities took place in Moscow during 2015, 2016 and 2017. Then, books and scientific articles were published in Russian and English languages. The book ¨Skin in psychoanalysis¨ by Professor Ulnik was also translated into Russian. Finally prominent psychoanalysts and professionals from Brazil, Italy and Austria joined us. They are Dr. Plinio Montagna, former president of the Psychoanalytic Society of Sao Paulo, Professor Joao Frayze Pereira from the University of Sao Paulo and Professor Michael Dennis Linder from the University of Graz. All of them participated in the international scientific activities in Moscow.

Later, this first group of students and their professors decided to formalize the activity they had been doing: a study program was developed and Eulaps was created to join the Latin American and European professors who had been participating. After an international thorough selection process new professors were incorporated either as teachers or advisors. 

EULAPS TODAY

The first group of psychoanalysts completed the first biannual course in psychoanalytic psychosomatics at EULAPS. A second group with a greater number of participants is being trained in the institution in psychoanalytic psychosomatics from different areas of Russia. Likewise, EULAPS is expanding its work within different societies and countries in Europe and Latin-America where great interest in taking on line courses about psychoanalytic psychosomatics has been growing.
